While supplying his family's needs, a coal miner comes to grips with a need of his own
Remember me in mercy,
as I'm under this mountain;
Lord you know I am lost,
And have never drank from your fountain.

In dark and in danger,
I try to be brave;
Knowing, this hole I'm digging,
may be my own grave.

You watch over your people,
on land or on sea;
God! I need you, in this coal mine,
to watch over me.

I'm working for my family,
to provide them a home;
and wishing that in heaven,
I had one of my own.

Lord I've been a great sinner,
and from the bible I've learned;
like this black coal I'm mining,
I too, will be burned.

So, I ask you "Please Jesus",
from way back in this mine;
To save me, Oh! Save me!'
and make me all thine.
