The promise of a child

I'll never forget that day
When out of the blue
God said, "Hey!"
A child I'm giving to you

How I lept for joy
How my heart did sing
Be it girl or boy
Into the world would I bring

So when that call came
After a routine visit
I knew no shame
When I told him to zip it!

Despite the dire warning
That hammered my soul
I knew in the morning
There was no letting go

Already had I a name
Long ago picked out
From God's Hall of Fame
There just could be no doubt

With each new day
That came and went
I could only pray
That faith would be sent

On that day enchanted
His love I knew
My one wish was granted
He gave me you!
