Where did they come from?

I woke up just this morning
To rush off to my duty
And decided on downing
A cup or two of coffee

Well, what else should I hit
All round and firm and crunchy
These pieces my teeth bit
Were peanuts in my coffee!

Now, how did they get there?
These peanuts and a toffee?
I soon discovered where
My son worked on my coffee!

Yesterday was my birthday
He thought of a surprise.
On this important day
Coffee peanuts was his prize!
