| “The Not-So-Original Sin” Adam and Eve did not eat of the Tree of Knowledge, For if they did, surely they would have come up With better excuses than passing the buck? It is evident to me, that they did not eat enough, But merely took a nibble. An hors d’oeuvre, if you will. Or—if you’ll forgive my frankness— They had a sudden case of bulimia. Perhaps, in the shock of being caught Both red-handed and red-faced, The best they can do is gape. And the man pointed to the woman, And the woman pointed to the snake, And the snake, lacking arms, merely said, “Damn.” It is from these poster-children of genius That makes small wonder That we would rather be related To apes. |
