Where I am versus where my mind is...
I ponder crested oily waves
and once ermine white birds
sullied and brown-dipped
when all is beautiful here.

Cleansing winds come near.
Thunder and lightning
plays across the prairie
mixing with pounding rain.

Moisture, life upon the plain
soaks the rich land dirt.
Roots of wheat and corn
accept the gift with grace.

A smile cleaves weathered face
as the farmer ponders crops.
No hail's smash or tornado,
this year's harvest will be rich.

In Louisiana oily waves pitch
upon battered, broken land.
Slowly the pelican limps away,
sadly, goodbye he waves.
