When you realize that you just stuck your tortilla-less fingers into the salsa and queso.
It was just a simple volume,
slim, and undignified,
cheaply bound and reproduced.
The current volume
had a movie poster front,
and actor and producer credits
in bold upon the back.

I had read the story,
in many different bindings
throughout my childhood,
teens, and young adulthood.
I thought a quick skim
would kill an hour
while I waited for my wife
to return from shopping.

Somewhere into
the second hour
and ninth chapter
I realized I was lost
with no want of rescue
when I stuck my
tortilla-less fingers
into a bowl of salsa.
I was happily
dining upon words
I had often digested before.

It was just a simple volume,
slim, and undignified,
cheaply bound and reproduced.
The current volume
had a movie poster front,
and actor and producer credits
in bold upon the back.
When I finished the
dog-eared final page
I turned back to page one
and once again the journey began.
