A brief poem about an untimely loss.
Tracing letters in cold granite on a day bright with summer sun.
I'm on my knees in the damp earth, thinking of how a life comes undone.
The year not nearly old enough, the boy far too young.

Seasons passed together, full of promise, full of pain,
All those prayers to stop the demons, all those bargains struck in vain.

The memory of your face fading now, the grief slipping from my heart.
Learning to love after the loss, finding hope and a fresh start.

Tracing letters in cold granite on a day bright with summer sun.
The year not nearly old enough, the boy far too young.
