The doorbell rang, to my surprise!
Your gift was there, it looked so nice

At first, I wasn’t certain who

sent me that loaded jewel’ry case.
And how that myst’ry’d not erase

my pleasure at your birthday gift—
just thinking now gives me a lift!

You were my mom’s best friend at school,
where you both learned the golden rule!

And now, you’re trying to find me—
to be sure I’ve grown up happy.
