The five wounds of Christ exhibited by Francis of Assisi

I do not know if Saint Francis of Assisi
incurred wounds (the five wounds of Christ)
on purpose or by faith.
I do know he stated:
A need for the restoration of his Father's house,
and that animals deserved the respect of
humans. Would he ask you to take your shoes off?
Walk with staff and scrip? Ask all: How
many wounds do you carry? Do you bleed?
Are the wounds self-inflicted? What stigma
do we carry? How can we walk without burdens?
