My Fortress - edited :)

I would appreciate any and all help - please offer suggestions for ways of improvement!!

My Fortress

Deep inside my core
is this hidden tiny space
with walls so thick and tall
the door resembles my face
         
It’s where I spent my childhood
when things would go awry
I locked myself inside
wishing it all away

Safe within my enclosure
you were locked out, too
here I shrank with all my fears
strangely safe from you

The walls are dense, vast, and strong
where your spiteful words must flee
my fortress you will never enter,
the lock - it has no key

Locked inside is where I live
it’s where I’d rather be
I’ll live my life behind these walls
than risk you hurting me
