from what was... letting go
torn pages and crumpled poems

jpeg smiles
mocking the tangible

a distant bell calls me back

beckons me to remember

yesterday's friends

a stream of moments flicker through
-random images haphazardly spliced together-
in this instant, you're the star...

your lifetime ended with a broken promise
"I will not leave you"

and I held you close, even after you'd gone
~still trying so desperately to believe~

held tight as gray silence crashed inside me

seasons changed in the stillness

your absence became more normal

and you slowly, inevitably, melted into then
I watched you shake hands
with those who had gone before

now you sit at the table
to observe
as you -and our love- fade into the mythos of my mind
