The wonderful picturesque effect after a snow storm.
"Crystal Painting"

With a window already framed,
         a Winter artist
set to working a crystallized
         painting to be embossed
upon a frigid plate of glass.

Splattered about,
         shiny silver specs
                   of snow-fairy dust,
a multitude of effervescent hues,
         dance swirling upon
newly white covered ground;
         a fresh gesso-canvas
prepared to impress and inspire.

An illustrated living story of
         snow waves,
                   rigid ripples,
and frozen faded-footsteps offer
         memories of recent events;
became the painter's background.

A moment's flash
         of a bright contrast,
a flush of scarlet-red,
         lands and leaves the ledge;
a birdbath's ice rink too slippery,
         teases the cardinal's
search for a quick drink.

Winter's artistic muse,
         with its long steel fingers
of dark blue shadows, creates
         an icy significance,
painting a frosty picturesque scene
         with magic crystals formed;
lingering on the frigid window pane.
