This poem describes the enormity of the universe and how small we really are. |
| BENEATH THE STARS On a warm and tranquil summers night to lay beneath the stars I must, To gaze around the heavens and feel as tiny as a speck of dust The river bank beneath me, the smell of earth, that’s good I feel at one with nature, as I always knew I would With no one to distract me, my mind’s an open door. I ask, is anybody there? Perhaps that’s what I’m looking for This small world that we live in, is such a minute part, To understand the universe, I don’t know where to start It puts things in perspective; my problems seem so small I seem so unimportant, I’m just a witness to it all. The chances of me being here, existing here at all are really quite extraordinary and very, very small So when I look into the skies as far as I can see, I sometimes wonder to myself, is someone looking down at me? |
