the only constant is change
It helps to have the correct change.
after all, what’s the use of a hair cut
or a semi-permanent color that matches
what the hair used to be before.
a lovely young child
with blonde hair and a bored eye
just emphasizes the difference in age.
and then there are those internal organs
turning into mush.

I used to dream of change
with plastic burning my palm
and a friend at my side
urging me into the dressing room
because it was exactly my shade of change-ness.
that’s why my closet groans
with untouched treasures.
some still wearing their prices.

I never really got into the habit
of changing men.
interchangeability is not a virtue
and my friend circle is only really changed
through accumulation.

I suppose that life is change
new people, vistas, thoughts,
attitudes
bending our minds and hearts
into impossible shapes
beyond imagination.

that feels correct.
