Inspired by the Oleanders in my yard
The bane of every gardener and farmer,
They spread their poison throughout suburbia,
They march across Earth’s deserts and through plowed fields,
Shape changers belonging to many phyla,
They go over or under protective shields,
They make us ill or destroy our food supply,
They mutate as they spread across unplowed fields,
They blossom and shed their pollen as we cry,
We cannot overcome, but make them slower,
These weeds we yank, pull, and poison every day,
We cannot defeat or hold their hoards at bay.
