Mourning the loss of my brother. I miss him so much.
Ode to my Brother

I dreamed last night of my brother.
An exquisite dream.
Tears spring to my eyes,
for often it seems

the loss is surreal,
and we talk face to face,
as we walk down the beach
in a far mystic place.

The sand, soft as velvet,
between my bare toes,
I follow my brother
wherever he goes.

The breeze from the ocean
combs back his black hair
as we sit in the sand,
and the secrets we share.

The corpulent sun paints
a scarlet and pink
as slowly below
the horizon it sinks.

Always the same query.
I’m found asking, “Why
did you have to leave
without saying goodbye?”

I wake wiping tears
that are scalding my eyes,
and sand from toes,
as my happiness flies.
There’s a hole in my soul,
as I realize

that no matter how real
the whole episode seems,
the good-byes we partake in
are only in dreams.

The only way left
for me to make peace
with the loss of my brother
whose love will ne’er cease.
I miss you.
