The fifth part of the Hidden series.
The man. Frozen to the core by winds of shadow.
They seek to slow him,
to keep him
in their ethereal
realm for eternity.

He struggles on
across the frozen wasteland
of misery,
trying to suppress
the terrible presence
of Solitude and Sorrow.

At last
he makes camp
on the everfrozen plains.
No fire he builds,
and soon
he once again
dives into dream
and nightmare alike.

The winds
keep blowing
into the night.
The stars
are blocked
by the clouds.

Darkness is complete,
no light or heat,
with the shadows
he cannot compete.

When he wakes
to the massive darkness,
his soul fills with despair
and a shattering cry
as he realizes,
he is lost on his path.

He runs,
he runs
and does not
stop for anything.

He runs
to find an end
to the darkness,
yet to him,
the shade
seems neverending.

Suddenly he is blinded!
The light is there before him,
radiant and beautiful.
What was once Buried Hope
is now unearthed
and shines once again.

Awed he stands,
paralyzed he gazes,
unable to comprehend
the shining truth
of the universe
now being revealed.

Then, for a split second,
the truth is obvious.
The purpose of life
and universe is clear to him.

He finally knows
what his journey
has been for,
and that he
is closer to
the end than
ever before.

He moves not
a muscle.
Even his breathing
has stopped.
The chilling winds
are silent,
the cold is gone
and the screams of
Sorrow and Solitude
have faded away.

He dares not move,
for fear the light
will once again
disappear, leaving
him cold, gasping
for air and life.

He stands,
hoping she
sees his
addiction and
comes to his aid.
He waits.
