A Consumer's Lament

This is a poem about the recent petrol crisis in Europe.

Can anyone explain this cursed fray?
The government in greed and avarice
Has screwed us over, It’s the brunt we pay.
A sad day has dawned when petrol's price
Has doubled; the country is in disarray!
Petrol is petrol so why the increase?
I think, in all fairness, we should protest
Let us ride camels and give cars a rest.
