Ode to a Sunday School Teacher

A tribute to that unsung hero of the church

I put together this prose
so that all will know

to commend your ongoing role
each week of feeding our souls

you approach the task anointed
at the ten o'clock hour appointed

a servant who does not tire
filled with Holy Ghost fire

the lesssons which you impart
expressed from the heart

deliver the word with zeal
doing the Lord's will

the Gospel the way you explain
spoken clear and made plain

the Bible you give it straight
to lead us to heaven's gate

so in my own small way
I set out to display

an appreciation of what you do
when you teach us in Sunday School
