Safety in the Shy

Waiting, watching, staring,
Lying and hoping-
Wanting and needing,
A solution to this

A cure for…
petrified silence-
Not willing.
Not wanting it.
Only wishing I knew the words to end this silence.
This shyness.

Is it you?
Or are you the cause?
Maybe it’s the science,
The logical signals to my brain-
The hormones, the unfamiliarity, the anxiety?
What makes a person coy?

Not the science.
It’s not the logic, the progress, the reason-
Those aren’t things the bashful can grasp,
It must be-
So then…

Couldn’t be-
I am infatuated with you,
Hold an insatiable hunger for you-
insatiable because I can’t even speak to you-
But maybe,
Maybe it’s safe this way.
This way where I can’t even speak to you,
Where I can only be shy for you.
