A child's joy over a Slip "N" Slide |
Slip N Slide Red Popsicle dripped down my chin I wore a tiny pink ruffled bikini and My pink flip flops squeaked when I walked The blazing sun beat down on my golden hair and freckled face My only relief was the wacky noodle poised in the middle of the grass My bare feet sank into the damp ground The coolness gave me goose bumps I was amped up to run for the water My brothers built the Slip “N” Slides just beyond the Wacky noodle, They put soap on it to make us slide faster. My mind was yelled, “Go!” My body listened and I ran for it. I jumped over the Wacky Noodle and landed belly first on the slide. I was going so fast I couldn’t stop, water was splashing all around me, It was like being inside a wave. Then I hit the grass. The slippery smooth surface vanished and I skidded to a halt three feet past the end. I stood up looked at my belly burn. Dirt and grass covered every inch of me. I smiled a brave smile and yelled, “I wanna do that again!” |
