An unusual take on the idea of "First Love" - written for a contest.
Ten Loves to One

My second love was drawing
Cats and dogs and birds with feathers
But my first love; it was writing
And I thought I’d write forever.

My third love, it was playing out
With friends around my home
Still, my first love – that was writing
At my desk sat all alone.

My fourth love as I neared my teens,
Was clothes and nail varnish
But my first love was still writing
As my mind began to tarnish.

My fifth love came in bottles
Labelled ‘Baileys’ and ‘Taboo’
With dancing queens in discotheques
Yet words, I still loved you.

My sixth love complicated things
As men got in the way,
Yet when things went wrong I knew
That I could write the pain away.

My seventh love was music,
All those songs etched in my heart!
But lyrics are just poems
And I loved you from the start.

My eighth love was my social group
The parties that we had
Yet on those quiet, lonely evenings
For my stories I was glad.

My ninth love bathed in sunshine
Was my adored holidays
Yet I always took my writing book
For company on my stays.

My tenth love was a website –
Perhaps it is The One?
My first love was to write and well,
It IS called Writing dot com……
