A satirical sonnet [Official WDC Contest entry for 6/2013]. |
| Servants of the People? Why do we always raise a fuss and cry, when Congress votes a modest raise in pay? We just forget that service is the 'why' they toil and sweat for us each blessed day. From dawn 'til dusk on our behalf they slave to pass the laws that keep our country free. No word of recognition do they crave - they simply want the best for you and me. And when, to find some facts, they have to fly to countries far away at our expense, we shouldn't shout, "The cost is much too high!" Their frequent flights all aid in our defense. So if you hear, "They've stabbed us in the back!", keep this in mind and cut them all some slack. [14 lines] |
