Make each day a new beginning

Each morning,
I wake
from the semi-death that men call sleep
to celebrate
a new beginning
to the rest of my life.

The mistakes of yesterday
are unchangeable;
I express my sorrow for what is past,
ask forgiveness,
and move forward
my eyes
always focused on the prize
of a well lived life.

A year
of living one day at a time,
of growing joy
in soil watered by tears
produces
a contented life.
