Epitaph to Chivalry

His lance shattered, thrown away,
The Quest abandoned, delusion, dismay,
His surcoat he rips from his chest,
The crucifix torn from his breast,
His honour sullied, his righteousness dust,
The sword the dubbed him given to rust,
All vows and God lost to time,
His previous creed, an empty mime,
Romanticism, the Damsel distressed,
Forgotten by the Hero depressed.

He let his armour fall to the ground,
Glory, honour lost to time profound,
His sword consumed by the rot of ages
His courage given to empty pages,
His heroics are finished, done!
When he lay done the sword and gained the gun.
