My First Poem for 2014

Now is the time for new beginnings,
To leave the past behind,
To start a new and better life,
To forgive yesterday's mistakes,
But I can't let go of the hurt.

         I see you everywhere I go,
         You're dancing with a new love,
         To the song that used to be ours.

This the time of new beginnings,
But I'm a prisoner of the past,
As long as I stay in this town,
I'll never be free of the pain,
I'll never let go of the hurt.

         I see you everywhere I go,
         You're dancing with a new love,
         To the song that used to be ours.

I need a new beginning,
Away from the memories of you,
Away from the daily encounters,
That open love's old wounds,
Or I'll never let go of the hurt.

         I see you everywhere I go,

I've purchased a new beginning,
I booked a flight to Dallas,
Where I've purchased a new home,
Away from love's constant reminders,
I know I'll let go of the hurt,

         If I can't see you everywhere,
         I'll find myself a new love,
         We'll dance to a song of our own.
