The Olympian

Seizing the moment of a perfect start.
Balanced, focused, keeping steady.
All the hard work has come to a halt,
For here he is; beginning his  part.

Gliding downward against all odds,
He keeps in mind to race and exceed.
The pace is fast, he tries to pass,
His opponents and their will to succeed.

Flashes of snow against his face,
Down the steep glazed trail.
People applauded as he nears the end;
So close, so far and no room to fail.

Ready to accept an award of honour,
He has raised the bar for the Olympian;
A medal of gold placed around his neck,
His part in history has been proudly done.
