A Flight Of Fantasy I sailed across a silvery sea On a fairy ship designed for me. On the wings of gossamer that gleamed We drifted to the Isle of Dreams Where nothing was the way it seemed I ran my hands through sands of gold, And watched as playful mermaids lolled; And frolicked in a sea so blue. No artist could contrive that hue I ran through fields where daisies fair Blew sweetly on the summer air. Then, in the distance I could see A castle rising from the sea. Mists of gold and sparkling light, Swirled about this wondrous sight. Their movement seemed to beckon me, The mist swirled around in playful glee. What wondrous treasures would await Should I venture through the gate?! Sweet music seemed to fill the air Coming from I know not where And suddenly, as if by fate, I found myself inside the gate Roses of Divinest hue On each side of the pathway grew As I stood in silent awe, A figure through the mist I saw. He was dressed in bright array Resplendent silks and colours gay A prince! Of that I had no doubt What was his name? I must find out! But as he suddenly drew near, So quickly did he disappear! And then the scenery changed once more; I was back on the enchanted shore. Somewhere a lonely bell was ringing And I thought I heard the mermaids singing. A softly sweet and haunting sound, It seemed to echo all around. My fairy boat would “ferry” me Once more across the shining sea. To the land of stark reality, Where everything is what it seems; And nothing like my isle of dreams. But, maybe I will return someday To the land where graceful mermaids play. Perhaps I will find my prince once more Somewhere on that enchanted shore. Out of the mist he'll come to me And there we shall dwell most happily. |
