A dark poem exposing despair. Written for Stormy's Poetry contest.
I drink in the despair
through my sore, reddened eyes.
I try hard not to care;
I try not to despise.

My anxious thoughts collect
in shallows of my mind.
I use strength to protect
my sense of being kind.

Constant stares from strangers,
shards of glass in my heart.
I know all the dangers
of not playing my part.

Though the days are sunny,
pain only increases.
Some may find it funny,
as I fall to pieces.

Quatrain written in abab rhyme scheme.

Using the following words; drink, despair, red, eyes, collect, shallow, glass, pieces.
