For Smokey the rabbit, the best companion I could have ever asked for (2003-2014).

Eleven years of age
I first saw you.
I had to bring you home;
that, I just knew.
I'd started a new life,
new school, new friends,
new house hidden in fields,
new starts, new ends.
I loved you from the start,
you and your sass.
We had our adventures,
but time did pass.
You always were with me
all through those years,
for all that I went through,
the joys and tears.

Eleven years of age
you passed away.
I just couldn't bear it.
No words can say.
You are now in the winds;
you're racing, free.
When I travel someday
you'll be with me.
We'll be travelers yet,
just separate planes.
I'll go explore my world,
you, your domains.
I wish I could see you.
It breaks my heart.
But I know you're still here,
and we're never apart.
