A poem inspired by a train ride and a prompt to see things through the eyes of God. . . |
| Author's Note: This poem was inspired by a recent train ride from Hong Kong to Mainland China. Even though Hong Kong has been under the control of the Chinese government for some years now, it remains more cosmopolitan and more tolerant of religion then most parts of the People's Republic. Seeing the people on the train through God's eyes produced this poem. For the form, I chose something like the Shakespearean sonnet. (I say "something like" because it doesn't use the syllable count of that form.) In the Hong Kong to Shenzhen train, Though she's crowded, Jill is happy. She clasps her cross on a gold chain. She's as a child of God should be. Sister Anne Palmer's joyful look Brings light for passengers to see. To hear her talk of Joe Smith's book You know a child of God is she. Yee does not care for what is said, But laughs and smiles with courtesy. Although he wears an armband red, God's love begins to set him free. Christian--Mormon--Atheist (Unknowing) All in their own way are God's love showing. |
