what lives in the snow during christmas
The snow falls as I open my eyes on Christmas morning. I jump out of bed and run down the stairs to see what Santa had left for me . The house is silent, not a peep out of my parents room, nor the usual snoring out of my sisters room, but I was in Christmas mode and put it all out of my mind.

I race around the corner, after taking the stair case in one big jump, which mom hates that I do that. And there the tree is all lit up, in all its glory. The fire place, burning bright a newly placed log on the fire. Around the tree were packages galore wrapped in bright colored paper with bows, a smile wrapped around my face as I checked out the sight, I loved Christmas.

But yet, I cant fight the feeling that something is wrong. The only sound I hear is the popping of the log on the fire place and nothing else, I am sixteen years old and I know I'm old enough to be left alone in the house, but on Christmas morning without so much as a word about it being mentioned to me, is way out of the norm for this family.

I smell an unusual faint smell floating through the air mixed with the smell of the wood on the fire. I slowly walk through the living room and into the kitchen, and as before find nothing and no one. The room looks as it always has, everything in its place, that was defiantly mom for you, she's a bit anal retentive about such things.

Now I'm really confused and concerned, its not like my family to do this. Afurther check of thie house revealed that the front door was unlocked. I opened it slowly until I knew there was nothing visible, I stepped outside only to find a set of footprints coming up to the house, but none leaving.
