Description of August heat

Whistling Dixie, kicking dust;
on the craggy road-
walloping avenging mosquitoes
while sweat mingles
with my freckles;
leaving me resentful-
tortured by the pitch
that obsesses the air.
Grasshoppers clipping the grass
'n change rattles my pockets-
hungry for the cone
that is far-flung,
and the sun continues-
with dog days still before me.
