Advice for newbies on how to get more out of WDC! |
![]() ![]() Greetings Newbies! Welcome to Writing.Com! As a former newbie myself, just 6 months in, I know how intimidating such a huge site can be. So many things to do and see - where should you begin?? There are so many listings out there on the site, but you need something that is at-a-glance, and one that will have updates often. This, my friend, is just what you need! ![]() ![]() ![]() Information:
![]() ![]() ![]() Contests: Here's a great place to start:
![]() ![]() ![]() Another way to get involved in the community is by checking the newsfeed for Weekend Challenges! .You'll find them on your Newsfeed - or the little globe-like symbol at the top of your screen. The first thing you will notice is the similarity to popular social media sites - if you can Facebook, you can Newsfeed. Update your status, post new or edited items, comment on and like others' posts, get advice, share photos, videos and more. You'll also find important events, contest winners announced, and special updates by our very own The StoryMaster ![]() ![]() ![]() But most importantly, have fun! Just because we're writers doesn't mean we are boring. Start a conversation and see where it takes you - you might just make a few friends, as our members are warm and friendly! Here is a way to show your friendly side! http://link:http://www.writing.com/main/tools/action/emoticons ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I love a challenge! The thrill of running around the site posting notes in members'notebooks, reviewing specific genres of writing, and any other instructions the challenge leader has come up with - all within a short deadline...it's so exhillerating! ![]() There are other challenges throughout the site:
The purpose of these challenges are much like a scavenger hunt. They require you to do all sorts of activities, reviews, visit members' notebooks , and much more. Thus, you get more involved in the community, learn your way around, and make new friends, all while having fun and earning Merit Badges. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Writing Help: http://grammar.about.com/od/improveyourwriting/a/tipsproofreading.htm http://www.chompchomp.com/terms/prepositionalphrase.htm http://www.chompchomp.com/menu.htm ![]() ![]() ![]() Official WDC Help:
