The day we first met I knew at a glance,
that the fates had conspired and it wasn't mere chance.
Instead of a handshake you introduced yourself with a hug.
It seemed we two were kindred spirits come together,
Two forever friends, no matter the weather.

Not only my friend, you're my inspiration too,
you've always believed in me, lifting me up with each day anew.
Even when I was sick and thought the bottle was my friend,
you never turned your back or gave up on me.
You still saw my worth, something I've struggled to see.

When I had no place to go, homeless and scared,
you took me into your home, giving me shelter, food, and someone who cared.
I'm a recovering alcoholic but you've never let that define who I am.
You have taught me so much and taken me under your wing,
I've learned that I'm more than the drink; you've reminded me how to make my soul sing.

You're my sister, my confidant, my writing partner-in-crime,
I am blessed with our friendship that will always be there through time.
You make me smile and laugh; you make me proud of myself.
You make it clear every day that I'm loved; you've helped me to be free.
Together, friends forever, we are destined to be.
