A fictional poem about two people struggling with the conflict between love and friendship
I ask that you stay
But you fancy us friends
You never would grant
That our friendship should end

I ask you once more
But you cut me again
Your heart lost in doubt
And mine rapt in pain

I ask if you feel
The throes of my heart
At every rebuff
Each wound you impart

I beg your embrace
To say you are mine
Your beautiful face
Your body divine

I say ne’er shall break
The friendship we share
But we can be more
We need only dare

I tell you I love you
That you are my sun
I swear that without you
My world is undone

Then deep in your eyes
I find something sweet
An ember of longing
— Soft soothing heat

Your tender heart melts
as I summon you near
You cast away doubt
You cast away fear

We drink in the warmth
Of each other’s lips
Tasting of lust
Enthralling sweet sips

You lay down at last
You dare condescend
Making love sweetly
As one we transcend

So nothing is lost
And nothing shall end

Let tonight be for lovers
Leave tomorrow for friends
