A veteran's poem
 The hill  (E)
A veteran's poem
#2064909 by Chris Breva

It was just a small hill
Yet it was in the commander's will
Just a line on some maps
For people dying in each other's laps.

Good men each and every one
Each prepared to get it done
Some would pay the ultimate price
Others would continue to relive their sacrifice.

There was a price to pay
Yet the brass had the will and the soldiers the way
Some would say blood and guts
Other's would say it was nuts.

It was only a few yards of dirt
For it many good men were hurt.
