A free verse poem depicting jealousy. Written for the So Emotional contest.
The green eyed monster raises its head.
It eyes blaze and bore into its prey.
Lips curl with distaste and disgust.
A low growl hangs in the air.
Its claws grasp at what was wanted;
Wanted, but lost to another;
Another that is so undeserving.
Fairness skitters into the corner,
Shying away from the waves of hate
That radiate from the creature.
As its anger builds, it grows
Leaving it vibrating with fury.
Alone in its swirling depths,
Drowning in its emotional cauldron
Where escape is futile
And the outcome, dismal.
