Shortly before college graduation, we lost a classmate and friend. A villanelle.
She died too early. She will never know
How brightly her light shone for those around
Our world was changed forever by her glow

The years we're given, things the world could show
The endless possibilities astound
She died too early. She will never know

The start of a career, and with the flow
Of time, to see her labors' fruits abound
Our world was changed forever by her glow

Perhaps she would have had offspring to grow
In marriage to a mate, love tightly wound
She died too early. She will never know

So many people wept; we loved her so
Her brightness was a gem that we had found
Our world was changed forever by her glow

How could such promise and such friendship grow
To only now be six feet underground?
She died too early. She will never know
Our world was changed forever by her glow
