Sleep apnea is a condition that affects many. There are three in my family that have it including myself. Sleep apnea is an illness that closes part of the soft pallet during sleep causing the sufferer to wake up periodically. The result is extreme sleepiness. The sufferer may fall asleep standing! It is a devastating condition.

It is also a condition that is treatable. One wears a mask that is part of a CPAP machine. It forces the soft pallet open. Then all is well.
