Enough

Reaction to public violence

Enough

The sum total
Of all the emotions
That are pouring
Through my heart
And my soul
Can be summed up
In but a single word

Enough

Today
Ten people were killed
Another seven injured
When a twenty-year-old
Young man
Decided it was their time to
Die

Later it was learned
He had posted his intent
On a web page
For many people to see

Some laughed at him
Others cheered for him
Some offered advice
On what weapons
He should use
No one
Begged him to stop
No one sent him to seek help
No one did what it would take
To stop him

Today
So many hands
Along with his
Are bathed in the blood
Of the innocent
His life ended
Along with his victims
But so many others
Simply once again
Sit in front of their monitors
Or holding their phones
And continue their lives
Like they did before

I am sitting here on my knees
Drowning in tears
The tears so many families release
Into this small world
And I feel their pain
Having such a hole
Ripped through their world

And still
Only one word
Can escape my lips

Enough

My god people

Haven’t we all had
