A difficult experience of Childhood and the freedom of faith in Adulthood

A child loves, a child trusts, a child laughs
Then a child hates, a child fears, a child cries
The child grows, but hope fades
Then the adult runs, the adult hides, the adult lies

To cover pain from far away, in a distant place
Left there by ungentle hands
Left there in disgrace, a poisoned life
Wandering, crawling, unable to stand

Only Your touch Lord can find
The child so long ago broken
Only You can see the whole
The picture complete again

You touch, You love, You wait
For the long anticipated glimpse
Of a heart that knows Your name, of one
Who starts to trust and no longer limps

But jumps for joy, is no longer lame
Is no longer deaf, no longer blind
Is no longer living within
A broken, shattered, tormented mind

But cries out aloft a mountain, the name of God
For it is only You who can reach inside
The adult, so far down, so far within
And can still heal the wound of the child.
