Rest in peace Johan Cruyff.

Cruyff passed away, I read, his countenance stoic,
ruff and ready once, an integral part of soccer,
ubiquitous his obituary as per Internet milieu.
Young no more (he was sixty eight)--hence, may
friends and family honor him in their grief,
forming comfort within, whatever their belief.

Perhaps applause will be like a grand thunderclap
attesting to his football legacy, wherein Barcelona
shall pay tribute to the man with flourishes.
Snatched from life as reality demands,
eternal number 14 is no more;
death remains the final sounding board.

A coach, a mentor (born in Amsterdam), a
willingness that was sport itself. Sigh and aw
arrives from those whose recollection is like a plea.
Yesterday’s reward--such is the persistence of memory.
