How a field mouse and his peanut become a poem

Poetry: May 04, 2016 Issue [#7629]

Birth of a Poem

A tiny field mouse drops part
of a peanut he is devouring…..
…a thought

The peanut rolls on the ground
and falls into a small hole...
…planted

It soon has a tiny stalk
and a few tiny leaves...
…growing

The stalk is now big
and has many shiny leaves...
…maturing

Stripped of its leaves,
the stalk can now make marks in the dirt...
….writing

A boy was looking for peanuts, too,and he
writes letters made by the stalk...
…reading

Fascinated, the the boy realizes
that his letters make rhyming words...
…poetry

The boy has forgotten about peanuts,
he is exulted with the meaning of the poem...
…comprehension

…and it all began with a tiny field mouse
which dropped his exquisite peanut...
