A poem about a woman and her doppelganger
The Doppelganger

The woman feels the presence
of someone
with her.

Whoever it is
only communicates
with whispers.

Never seeing a face,
the woman only sees
a shadow.

The presence with her
is foreboding
and menacing.

She wonders if this
could be
a lost twin.

Perhaps the presence
could be a
seventh sense.

The whispers have
increasingly urgent.

The message is
the same.

“Kill her,
kill her”,
it whispers.

The woman thinks
maybe she
is insane.

But nobody appears
to think she
is insane.

To be rid of this presence,
she knows she must
kill her.

Hours later,
the woman’s family
finds her dead.
