A kite and a child on a windy spring day.
Kite Delight

Kathleen McNamara

A light wooden frame
and a ball of thin string,
the wild winds of March
that blow in the Spring.

A piece of soft fabric
with colors so bright,
attached to the frame
to fashion a kite.

A small child runs
and the kite, it takes wing!
He laughs with delight
as he lets out the string.

On the breath of the winds
it touches the clouds.
His delight, it spills over
and he giggles out loud!

The breezes fall quiet.
The kite slowly drifts down.
The giggles fall silent.
His face wears a frown.

The string is now rolled up
and the kite put away.
His hopes for tomorrow…
another windy Spring day!
