Mary Katherine saw her world in black and white
|Crossing the Bridge
Wearing no coat, hat, or gloves, Mary Katherine held her beloved teddy bear tightly to her small chest for an ounce of warmth. Born in poverty and raised by single drug-addicted mother, they lived in the projects where everything and everyone was broken and ugly.
After another dinner of saltines and water, Mary Katherine ran away from home as fast as her little legs would carry her, when she came to a black and white bridge.
Mary Katherine never saw the world’s exquisite colors because poverty had destroyed them, one by one. She was found the next morning, dead from hypothermia.
Mary Katherine had crossed the bridge and found all the miraculous colors of heaven.
