Inspired by a childhood friendship that grew apart written in the late 1990's.

To An Old Friend

You're not the same person I used to know.
What happened to the girl I knew long ago?

You've gone and left a stranger in your place.

You've gone far away without leaving a trace.

You've changed all of your ways,

But I can't help but remember the good old days.

I miss the old you, I miss her a lot.

Fond memories of her is all I've got.

Our friendship is dead, it's gone away,

And I hope it will return someday.

We were there for each other through good and bad,

I never realized how many great times we had.

Real friends are so hard to find,

Through your journey in life keep this in mind.

The road of life can be cruel, harsh, and unfair,

But don't ever forget that I still care.

Can we fix our friendship? Or is it gone forever?

No, I'll never give up...never.

We said we wouldn't change for anyone,

But what's said is said and what's done is done.

Can things ever go back to the way they were?

After all this time and change I'm not sure.

I wish things didn't change, I wish they would've stayed the same.

But I think that we're both to blame.

What lays ahead no one knows,

I guess that's just the way life goes.

20 years down the road you'll see me and mumble hello,

Not even realizing I was someone you used to know.

Not less than 14 years ago you became my best friend.

I really didn't think our friendship would end.

Maybe it's not dead, but it seems so far away.

Maybe we'll rebuild it someday.

Let's hope we can get back the friendship we once had.

I honestly don't think it went bad.

You knew me well indeed,

And yours is the friendship I need.
