Dirty and clean foods (when it comes to pesticides.) |
| Dirty: The cherry tomatoes are red in the face; the spinach and apples think it a disgrace. Bell peppers shake on the stem, making a ring; cucumbers determine that green is the thing. Tomatoes and nectarines slump with a sigh; plump grapes and wee cherries are wondering why. Celery, in a huff, continue to stalk; peaches and spinach set out for walk. They all form a circle and sing, Let it Be; then they say, “Watch out for us—dirty are we!” Clean: The mangoes and kiwi relax with a grin; cauliflower believe they are cabbage kin. Avocados and eggplant rejoice in the smug; honeydew go to onions and give them a hug. In amazement, asparagus laugh kinda loud; both papayas and corn have their heads in a cloud. Cantaloupe take a shine to the gleam of sweet peas; vain were pineapples once—now they’re eager to please. The grapefruit so ready to offer a shout, yet they know, with some meds, one had better watch out. Then they all join in victory, thinking it keen: “We are happy to serve, everyone—we are clean!” 24 Lines Writer’s Cramp 9-25-16 |
