What’s not to love about this time of year?
The heat is gone since summer’s slipped away.
Accoutrements of Halloween appear;
on porches, pumpkins make a fine display.
A trinket Jack-O’-Lantern face of joy;
despite the sunken eyes, he seems upbeat.
Such lift for every adult, girl and boy;
perhaps he is the face of trick-or-treat.
The days get short and nights provide a chill;
abundant dew in morning coats the lawn.
Despite the changes, I perceive a thrill,
because of what this time of year does spawn.
A grinning pumpkin seems to say it all;
with joy and laughter, I embrace the fall.
